Hotel tipping for housekeeping

Hotel Tipping for Housekeeping
Travel Host Magazine
Fall 2009

Charleston is a city full of history and charm, with many visitors on a regular basis.  All through the year. What is the etiquette of tipping the housekeeping staff of a hotel for good service?

There is etiquette on how much to tip and how to tip housekeeping for taking care of you as part of your stay.

Make sure that there is not a housekeeping surcharge already on the bill. Make sure the tip is in an envelope or in a folded piece of paper clearly marked.  Make sure the tip is left in an obvious place on the pillow or bathroom counter.

The tip can range from $2.00 to $5.00 or higher per night, depending on how expensive the hotel is. There is etiquette for tipping, but always remember that tipping is optional and has always been a gesture of appreciation for service well done.
