Hotel Tipping for Housekeeping

Page 35

Written By Cynthia Grosso

Charleston is a city full of history and charm, with many visitors on a regular basis, all through the year. What is the etiquette of tipping the housekeeping staff of a hotel for good service?

There is etiquette on how much to tip and how to tip housekeeping for taking care of you as part of your stay.

- Make sure that there is not a housekeeping surcharge already on the bill.

- Make sure the tip is in an envelope or in a folded piece of paper, clearly marked.

- Make sure the tip is left in an obvious place on the pillow or bathroom counter.

- The tip can range from $2.00 to $5.00 or higher per night, depending on how expensive the hotel is.

There is etiquette for tipping, but always remember that tipping is optional and has always been a gesture of appreciation for service well done.
